Response to Intervention (RtI) is a multi-tiered approach to providing early, intensive support to students who are struggling academically or behaviorally. The goal of RtI is to identify and address student needs as quickly as possible to prevent more significant problems from developing.
A RtI block is a dedicated time period within the school day for students to receive additional support tailored to their individual needs. This could include academic intervention, behavior support, or enrichment activities.
Tier 1: Core Instruction: All students receive high-quality instruction in the regular classroom.
Tier 2: Targeted Intervention: Students who are not making adequate progress in Tier 1 receive additional support during the RtI block. This may include small group instruction, targeted skill building, or behavior management strategies.
Tier 3: Intensive Intervention: Students who continue to struggle despite Tier 2 support may receive more intensive, individualized intervention during the RtI block or other designated times.
Possible Support During RtI Block:
Academic Support: Reading, math, writing, or other subject-specific interventions.
Behavior Support: Social skills training, self-regulation skills, or organizational skills development.
Enrichment: Opportunities for advanced learners to extend their learning in class topics or interests.
