General Learner Outcomes

The General Learner Outcomes (GLOs) serve as the enduring foundation for our standards-based learning approach for all students across all grade levels. These overarching goals empower our teachers to create rubrics that extend beyond simply measuring academic achievement. By focusing on the GLOs, teachers cultivate students into self-directed, lifelong learners. These core GLOs are:

Self-Directed Learner: Students take responsibility for their own learning journey.
Community Contributor: Students understand the importance of collaboration.
Complex Thinker: Students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Quality Producer: Students can identify and create high-quality work.
Effective Communicator: Students communicate clearly and persuasively.
Effective and Ethical User of Technology: Students leverage technology responsibly and effectively.

GLO 1: Self-Directed Learner

Students take ownership of their learning journey. They set Wildly Important Goals (WIGs), create a plan with lead measurable goals, and reflect on their progress throughout the entire process.

GLO 2: Community Contributor

Here at Kahaluʻu Elementary School, one of our motoʻs is Onipaʻa Kā kou . Being a active community contributor is essential for everyone to synergize, or work together, to accomplish a common goal. Students in our community respect otherʻs feelings, abilities, and ideas.

GLO 3: Complex Thinker

Complex thinkers are masters of weaving together critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They leverage their knowledge and past experiences to navigate new situations creatively, exploring diverse approaches to find the best solution.

GLO 4: Quality Producer

Quality producers have a keen eye for excellence. They not only recognize high-quality work, but they actively create it, consistently exceeding established standards. These individuals are meticulous in setting their own criteria and hold themselves accountable throughout the process. Quality producers leverage feedback to refine their work and demonstrate unwavering perseverance to achieve exceptional results.

GLO 5: Effective Communicator

Effective communicators are masters of a diverse skillset. They:

Actively listen to others, absorbing information and perspectives.
Articulate their thoughts clearly ensuring their message is understood.
Demonstrate strong comprehension when reading various materials.
Craft written messages that effectively convey ideas and information.
Interpret visual information and derive meaning from it.

GLO 6: Effective & Ethical User of Technology

Effective and ethical technology users are masters of harnessing technology's potential. They leverage a diverse toolbox of devices, tools, and resources to successfully complete projects, access information, collaborate seamlessly, and solve problems. These individuals operate within established guidelines, prioritize online safety, demonstrate responsible stewardship of technology resources, and foster a respectful online environment.
